Saturday, September 23 2006. A brilliant spring day and 30,000 people hit the beach. At 2pm the alarms go off and everyone gets out of the water as 3 six foot bronze whaler sharks appear in the bay, as close as 50m to the beach. The helicopter guides 2 lifesavers on jet skis as they try and chase the sharks out to sea. It took some doing as the sharks were more interested in chasing the salmon they were following. It took half an hour before it was safe to go back in the water.
Aquabumps took this great shot of 30,000 people on the beach and none - well, one or two idiots - in the water. Check out www.aquabumps.com.au for great photos.
